New Update: Man Who Kidnapped Child In Boston Arrested

The Suffolk County man who stole a truck with a child still inside was arrested, officials say. 

Cristofanes Mendes is wanted by police for stealing a car and kidnapping a toddler.

Cristofanes Mendes, age 33, of Boston, was arrested via a warrant on Monday, July 31 around 10:30 a.m. two weeks after he stole a truck with a toddler still inside of it on Friday, July 14, according to the Boston Police Department. 

Mendes jumped in a truck and drove away in the area of 430 Geneva Avenue. The chil's parent's had gotten out of the vehicle to tend to their toddler.

The car thief returned to the area shortly after, dropped the child off on the sidewalk, and sped off again. 

The truck was found, abandoned, an hour later at 156 Columbia Road. 

Mendes was arrested without incident in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Chesterton Street in Roxbury.

He was wanted on the following charges:

  • Reckless endangerment of a child
  • Larceny of a motor vehicle
  • Unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
